I live in Toronto, and I believe it's a very vegan-friendly city. There are plenty of good vegan shops and restaurants to frequent.

I believe the Annex is the most vegan-friendly neighbourhood. In just a few blocks you can find:

Noah's Natural Foods (Bloor & Spadina)
Overpriced for most stuff, but does have a wide selection. Most importantly, it houses a non-overpriced cafe that makes lovely food. You must try the 99 cent chocolate chip cookies!

Taste of Nature (Bloor & Brunswick)
My personal favourite health store. They're super nice and reasonably priced. Very reasonable bulk section.

Health Valley (Bloor & Brunswick)
Home of Merry Hempster Vegan Lip Balm & the cheapest JASON hand soap in the area. Super nice owner.

Juice for Life Restaurant (Bloor & Bathurst )
Fancy enough, but casual too. Very down to earth menu and of course, super juice. Vegan unless it clearly says otherwise.

Kensington Natural Bakery (Bloor & Bathurst)
Not actually in Kensington, but what the hey! This is where I head for my pies, particularly for my pumpkin pie. Soooo good. They also sell day-old bread for 99 cents.

Eternal Abundance (Bloor & Bathurst)
Organic veg store. Often has major sales that make their vegetables cheaper than the regular grocer's! They also sell soy milk and other such products.

Throughout the rest of the city, the vegan may still travel confidently:

Kensington Market has many health stores that are very good and is also home to King's Cafe, a nearly all-vegan joint.

On Queen West, you'll find the other Juice for Life, as well as fancy-pants Fressen, a veg restaurant.

Around Bay & Dundas you'll find Le Commensal, a swank buffet restaurant that charges you by weight of dish. This is where the wonderful vegan musician Moby eats when he's in Toronto.

There are also other locations of Noah's, like Bloor & Yonge and Yonge & Eglinton.

The Big Carrot at Danforth & Chester is also a good health store, though they only carry stuff that's organic (kind of annoying).

Whole Foods at Hazleton Lanes could be an option, but I don't like what I've read about their employees not checking their mousetraps, which leaves trapped mice to starve to death. Why don't you contact them and tell them that you don't like this practice either? 416.944.0500 or 416.944.0700 fax
